MAY 09, 2025 | MZONEWS DESK
A major escalation in the ongoing India-Pakistan tensions unfolded on Friday evening as explosions and blackouts swept across parts of North India. Indian air defence systems reportedly intercepted Pakistani drones over Samba and Pathankot, with loud blasts heard in Jammu and Poonch. In response, widespread blackouts were enforced in sensitive areas including Jammu, Srinagar, and parts of Rajasthan like Jaisalmer and Pokhran.
Blackouts & Sirens Across Jammu
Jammu plunged into darkness following a series of explosions, according to reports from news agency PTI. Air raid sirens were heard citywide, and residents were instructed to switch off lights and remain indoors. Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah confirmed the developments on X, advising citizens not to spread rumors and to stay safe amid what he described as “intermittent heavy blasts.”
Drone Strikes & Artillery Fire at LOC
India’s military successfully intercepted Pakistani drones entering Indian airspace in the Jammu sector. Simultaneously, renewed artillery fire was reported along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector, with heavy gunfire and explosions echoing in the region.
In Rajasthan’s Pokhran, suspected drone attacks were reported, prompting authorities to enforce a total blackout in Jaisalmer and surrounding areas.
Pakistan Threatens Full-Scale War
In a high-stakes statement, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif declared that the country has “no other option” but to engage in full-blown war with India. Speaking to 365 News, he stated, “We have to pay them back in the same coin,” sparking serious concerns over further escalation.
Airport Closures Extended Till May 15
Amid the heightened threat perception, the Indian government extended the closure of 24 airports across northern India until 5:20 AM on May 15. These include major hubs like Srinagar, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Jammu, Pathankot, and Jaisalmer, according to an official NOTAM (Notice to Airmen).
Air India Suspends Flights
Air India announced the suspension of all flights to and from high-risk regions including Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, and Amritsar until May 15. Affected passengers will be eligible for rescheduling or full refunds.
Emergency Preparedness in Delhi
The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) have cancelled all leaves for their staff to ensure complete administrative readiness. Similar directives were issued by the Health Ministry, asking all officers to report back to duty immediately.
Energy Supply Stable Amid Crisis
Despite the crisis, India’s energy security remains intact. Oil marketing companies like IOCL, BPCL, and HPCL have secured crude supplies for the next three months, while the country’s strategic oil reserves are ready for emergency use.
Impact on Real Estate Sector
Market analysts at ANAROCK warned that continued conflict could dent residential property sales in north India by 5–10%, especially in Delhi-NCR. However, they also emphasized that a major market crash is not expected unless the situation worsens drastically.
